How Nest on Main Increased Sales 253%: Performance Max Case Study

Nest on Main increased sales by 253% after a focused programme of Performance Max optimisation. The work centred on reliable conversion data, product and budget prioritisation, stronger campaign inputs and closer alignment between ads and the shopping journey.

Transparency note: The percentage result is drawn from Sparkx Marketing’s client reporting. Client-sensitive information such as absolute revenue, media spend and account-level screenshots is not published. Results vary by market, margin, offer, tracking quality and starting point.

The challenge

The commercial objective was to grow ecommerce sales through Google Ads without treating traffic volume as the main measure of success. Performance Max can reach customers across Google’s inventory, but automation still depends on the quality of conversion signals, product data, creative assets and commercial decisions supplied to it.

The account therefore needed a disciplined optimisation process: understand which activity generated meaningful sales value, reduce noise and give the system clearer inputs.

The optimisation approach

1. Validate revenue measurement

Campaign decisions were anchored to completed sales and conversion value rather than clicks alone. Purchase tracking, order value and the relationship between advertising reports and store data must be credible before return-on-ad-spend decisions are made.

2. Improve product and feed inputs

Shopping-led campaigns depend heavily on product information. Titles, descriptions, imagery, availability, pricing and categorisation should accurately represent what the customer will see after clicking. Feed issues can limit eligibility or weaken relevance even when campaign settings look correct.

3. Prioritise according to evidence

Products and campaign activity were evaluated by commercial contribution. Budget should not be spread evenly simply for coverage; it should reflect conversion evidence, margin considerations, inventory and business priorities. At the same time, promising products need enough clean data to be judged fairly.

4. Strengthen message and destination alignment

Assets and product claims need to match the destination experience. A visitor should immediately recognise the product, benefit and offer that prompted the click. Consistency reduces uncertainty and gives qualified traffic a clearer path to purchase.

5. Make controlled changes

Constant edits can obscure cause and effect. The optimisation process used measured observation rather than reacting to every short-term fluctuation. Changes were assessed against meaningful outcomes, with enough time to distinguish a signal from normal volatility.

The result

Sales increased by 253%. The wider campaign reporting also showed improvement in conversions, clicks and conversion rate. The result demonstrates what can happen when automated campaigns receive stronger commercial inputs and are evaluated as part of the complete ecommerce funnel.

It does not mean Performance Max produces the same uplift for every advertiser. A percentage increase also needs context: baseline performance, margins, total spend, attribution and incrementality all matter when deciding whether growth is profitable.

What ecommerce brands can learn from this case study

  • Fix measurement before scaling. Automation optimised on weak or duplicated purchase data can move quickly in the wrong direction.
  • Treat the product feed as advertising creative. Accurate, useful data improves the system’s understanding and the shopper’s experience.
  • Use conversion value, not click volume, as the commercial lens.
  • Connect media and CRO. Campaign optimisation cannot permanently compensate for a confusing offer, weak product page or difficult checkout.
  • Judge profitable growth. Revenue is important, but margin, returns, fulfilment and new-customer quality determine business value.

Frequently asked questions

What is Performance Max?

Performance Max is a goal-based Google Ads campaign type that uses automation to serve ads across Google’s channels from one campaign. Advertisers still influence outcomes through goals, conversion data, budgets, feeds, assets and audience signals.

Is a 253% sales increase guaranteed?

No. This is a historical client result, not a promise. Outcomes depend on the business, baseline, market, economics, measurement and execution.

Should every ecommerce business use Performance Max?

Not automatically. The campaign type should fit the advertiser’s goals, tracking readiness, product data and ability to evaluate profitability. Testing should be controlled and compared with suitable alternatives.
